Mr. Witmer helped establish the firm's Los Angeles employee benefits practice. His practice includes employee benefits matters generally, with particular emphasis in the qualified plan context. He also has devoted significant time to working on benefits-related litigation, as well as mergers and acquisitions. This work has included supporting due diligence efforts, negotiating benefit provisions of sale and purchase agreements, working to establish domestic and foreign plans and trusts, contracting with various benefits vendors, setting up administration for new or acquired retirement and welfare plans, and working on design matters before and after the closing. Mr. Witmer also enjoys a very successful record representing clients in controversy matters before the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Labor, and in the courts.
Mr. Witmer is a 1990 graduate of Harvard Law School, cum laude, and 1987 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, summa cum laude. He was resident in the firm's Washington DC office from 1990 until 1998 until his move to the Los Angeles office in 1998.
