Brian Davis Joins Ivins' Corporate Tax Group, Adding International Tax Depth and Expertise

Ivins, Phillips & Barker, Chartered, one of the nation's premier corporate tax and employee benefits law firms, announced today that J. Brian Davis, formerly Director of International Tax for Viacom Inc., has joined the firm as a partner in the corporate tax group in Washington, DC.

"Brian has an extensive background and expertise in strategic planning for international tax transactions and cross-border structures.  With his corporate experience, he also has strong perspective on the practical and business aspects of these situations," commented Ivins partner Bob Wellen.  "Ivins has a long history as one of the nation's leading corporate tax firms, with an extensive client base of sophisticated Fortune 500 clients.  Brian is a terrific addition to our expanding planning team," said Ivins partner Jeff Moeller.

As to why he chose to join Ivins, Brian stated, "Ivins, Phillips & Barker is a premier law firm with a deep tradition of excellence in all facets of tax law.  Its lawyers are widely regarded as among the best in the nation, serving a broad and sophisticated client base on complex and high-stakes tax issues."  He continued, "I am honored to join this elite group of tax lawyers and to become a part of the firm's first-class corporate tax practice."

Brian has extensive and highly practical experience in international tax planning.  At Viacom, Brian served as a senior technical advisor to the company's executive team on US tax matters associated with mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, and outbound operations.  He also had lead tax responsibility for many of the company's most significant internal restructurings, joint ventures, enterprise risk-mitigation strategies and IP-related initiatives.

Prior to joining Viacom, Brian was with the tax practices of two national law firms, where he advised corporate clients on domestic and international tax matters, with a particular emphasis on mergers and acquisition transactions, the planning and implementation of multi-jurisdictional business restructurings, tax attribute and cash management optimization, matters relating to global mobility and the provision of services, and matters involving treaty interpretation such as nexus and withholding.

Brian is heavily involved in the Tax Executives Institute and the Tax Section of the American Bar Association.  Since 2011 he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Corporate Taxation at the George Mason University School of Law.  Brian earned his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Oregon and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.
