Siobhan Mahaffey

Associate

When she is not helping clients plan for their future, Siobhan enjoys baking and exploring the outdoors around the DMV with her partner and their dog.

Profile

Siobhan advises individuals and families on all facets of estate planning, with a focus on designing and implementing thoughtful, tax-efficient strategies for the transfer of wealth across generations.  Siobhan’s approach balances technical precision with a sensitivity to the personal and family dynamics that shape each client’s long-term goals, ensuring that every plan is as pragmatic as it is personal.

Before joining IPB, Siobhan practiced as an associate in the Trusts and Estates department at a Vault 100 law firm in New York City.  Her practice focused on sophisticated estate and tax planning for high-net-worth individuals, working with both individuals and family offices, and included the preparation of core estate planning documents as well as counsel on charitable giving, trust and estate administration, and asset transfers.

Siobhan received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Cornell Law School, where she was a Charles Evans Hughes Scholar.  During law school, she externed for the Honorable Judge James Donato in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, where she drafted bench memoranda on a range of issues and collaborated extensively with chambers, clerks and the Judge.  While at Cornell Law, she also served as an associate on the Cornell International Law Journal and held leadership positions in the Briggs International Law Society and the California Law Students Association – a natural fit for a Los Angeles native braving the Ithaca winters.  Siobhan spent her third year of law school in Paris, where she received an LL.M in French and European Law from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University.

Siobhan received her LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was a Graduate Tax Scholar.  She earned her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor - Go Blue! - where she majored in History and Romance Languages and Literatures and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

When she is not helping clients plan for the future, Siobhan enjoys baking and exploring the outdoors around the DMV with her partner and their dog.
