Ivins, Phillips & Barker Partner Announcements

WASHINGTON – Ivins, Phillips & Barker announced today that it promoted two Washington lawyers to its partnership, effective January 1, 2017: Kasey Place and Spencer Walters.

“Kasey and Spencer have proven themselves to be trusted advisors to their clients and creative thinkers in their fields. Their legal acumen and outstanding client service will drive Ivins forward in the best traditions of our 82-year history as a premiere tax boutique law firm,” said Eric Fox, managing partner.

Kasey Place:  Ms. Place is a member of the firm’s Estate Planning Group.  Her practice focuses on strategies to minimize estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer taxes for high net worth individuals residing in the U.S. and abroad.  She is skilled in creating sophisticated estate plans for her clients, as well as addressing attendant matters such as prenuptial agreements and real estate transactions.  She also has extensive experience advising private foundations and public charities on formation, compliance and governance matters.  Ms. Place has a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law.  She is admitted to practice in Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Spencer Walters:  Mr. Walters advises clients on all aspects of employee benefits and executive compensation design and compliance. As the son of a retired HR professional, Mr. Walters takes particular pride in making lives easier for in-house HR and benefits administrators.  In the past year, Mr. Walters has advised Saudi Refining, Inc. (SRI), a subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Oil Company, on the benefits aspects of the division of Motiva Enterprises LLC from SRI’s joint venture partner, Royal Dutch Shell.  Other 2016 engagements include advising a Fortune 50 media company on legacy pension plan terminations and developing and implementing pension de-risking strategies for various clients.  Mr. Walters received his law degree cum laude from the University of Michigan and his undergraduate degree from Haverford College.  He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.
